Gah!

I wake up every morning without a set number of miles I want to run. It takes me literally 15 minutes from the time I wake up till I'm out the door. The number of miles are decided, quite literally, in the minute it takes me to tie my shoe laces - the legs decide how far they want to go. After some excellent fuel all day yesterday - 18 miles were decided. It was one of the warmest mornings for me in recent memory - still, humid, steamy. The first 5 or so miles were fine - this didnt last long however. Every mile after that was torture. I think the combination of the weather and the fact that I was dehydrated caused the wheels to come off. I dont ever carry any carbs or gel with me on long runs - I take a quick swig of water just before I leave - its a run and its supposed to be difficult - it is NOT a buffet!

Since I hate bailing on runs - it was Lance Armstrong who said "Pain is temporary, it lasts an hour, or a day, but quitting is forever" - I try and remember that when the going gets tough. I still slugged it out, but boy! The last 2 miles were a test of will, and the fact that I had no choice but to finish (because taking a cab back home with 15 minutes left is not only irritating to me, but given how stingy I am - I'd rather buy a candy bar!). Anyway, no PR's were set this morning - I walked back the last mile.

18 miles 2:45 minutes. (30km)
The good news is that I am 96 miles already this week with just one double workout. Its only saturday - although I dont think a long run tomorrow is in the cards.

So sleepy this morning despite an excellent snooze last night. I slept and woke up in the same spot after 8 or so hours. Will try and get an early night tonight again.

13.3 humid miles this am.

3-5 miles this pm depending upon my mood, fuel and the weather. I want to make 18 for the day - it will take me to 80miles for the week so far - I like nice round numbers and I am not planning to run more than 4-5 on Sunday. This bit will be updated.
*Update! 3 very hot and sunny miles in 19mins

Things that piss you off about running

One of the most annoying things about being female and Asian is that men find it very difficult to get beat by a girl. Another thing that is very annoying when some moron decides to challenge me during a recovery run.

I am familiar with most of the people on my trail - most of them are older folks, some run, some walk and some do Tai Chi. There are some 30-ish year old men who are totally respectful of space and running etiquette. However, its the Asian poseurs who grate on my nerves the most. Theres this one moron I see a few times a week.

I dont have any problem with people who run faster than I do - although, its very rare that I get passed. If someone wants to pass me, they have gotta earn it. Simple as that. Just dont tailgate me with your labouring breathing - because I.will.make.you.hurt. This guy decided to use my pace to do his speed workout. I was in recovery mode. Anyway, he tailed me for a mile - I decided to teach him a lesson. I let him get ahead me and then chased him for around 2.5 miles. Instead of finishing what he started, he took a turn to the left to avoid facing me as he was getting beaten. On my way back, sure enough, he had his hands on his hips, and then his knees; gasping for air. I should say that he was one of those typical overprivileged morons you see all the time in Singapore. I cant wait to see him when I do my tempo run - will be sure to report back!

7 easy recovery miles 55mins
46 laps in the pool in 30mins (a mile and a half)

I type this wearing socks and a huge jumper - totally freezing (although its like 28 degrees here).

Strong run!

Today needed to be different. This is what went on this morning:

7 miles 60mins
3 miles @ tempo (not LT pace) 22mins
2 miles @ all-out 12.15 mins
0.2 mile recovery jog.

I then came back, cooled off for 20 or so mintues by downing icy water and taking a quick cold shower. Went back out for another 3 @ 18.25 (this was done to failure - i.e. to the point where conversation is definately not possible)

Very cool. Total : 15.2 miles.

Be careful what you wish for!

It seems that ever since I wrote the post about the lack of rains in Singapore lately - It has been raining with a vengence. Since I seem to have *so* much influence over the weather, I'd like to say - rain, rain go away!!

My first 12 miles in the rain were fine - after that, the mixture of rain water and sweat caused my eyes to sting - *alot*. As a result, not only are my eyes itchy, but I also seem to have developed a bad rash in the strangest of places. I have also given myself the sniffles. This is what you get for running in the Botanic Gardens during a storm!

20 miles this am - I was completely soaked by the end of it. Theres no point waiting for it to stop raining - does not make sense to wait an hour only to run an hour back home. Took me 165 minutes. Quite happy with the time.

I couldnt face the pool after this!

Hello Monday!

Sweat usually causes my nose to run - I usually just blow a snot rocket through one nostril. Sorry for the gross imagery if you are eating - but who doesnt blow snot? We all do - so deal with it. Anyway, this morning mine was green and I'm pretty sure it had wings - eeek!

900 stair sprints
9 mile run (oh yeah!)
10 slow laps in the pool.

Just over 3 hours. I feel good again.

Taste of Tool Part Deux

...wallowing in my insecure delusions....with forty six and two ahead of me....

And that folks, pretty much sums up my Sunday. 230 sprints.
