The loneliness of the long-distance runner...

...yes thats right. There are few activities as solitary as running. This is even more-so when I set out to run at 4:30am on a weekend. I see people just returning from their night out giving me strange looks or little critters out and about.
I ran 12 easy miles this morning. The last 4 were again done at MP. It was more humid this morning than it has been recently but its always nice to set out. I needed it this morning. I swam 20 laps after my very sweaty run. I'm glad I got this in - ice cold pool water is an excellent anti-inflammatory. It reduces soreness and the legs feel brand spanking new the next day. This is the sole reason why I can do long runs as often as I do.
I havent got time or inclination to do much more than what I'm doing at the moment. Ive had zero time for anyone but myself. Times like this I'm so thankful for running - I have no idea what I'd do without it. I might write a bit more when I have the time - but with all the writing I do on a daily basis, its a bit hard to get motivated to write another essay.
4 miles on tap this pm. Thats 16 miles today - not bad. I just love to run!

Indeed it can be quite lonely, especially if its on the treadmill. Jean Baudrillard thought of modern man as a loner jogging on a treadmill, having shut out his surroundings with the iPod headphones and his eyes fixed at the gym television, running without a destination in mind :-)
