Today is the 3rd of February. I am exactly 2 days shy of 16 weeks till Sundown! I am not really following a formal plan - I just make sure to do one 22 plus mile run a week, a faster 15 mile, and a few shorter runs here and there. My addictive tendencies prefer me being on my feet 7-days a week. However, even *I* (the queen of routine) get bored of the same old same old - so I break it up to do stair repeats every once in awhile. I love stairs - I used to love hills when I lived overseas but Singapore is flat as a pancake in that regard. My ass was completely non-existant before I started to do stairs regularly. I love what they to the quads - plus the muscle definition is something I am very proud of (especially given how flabby I am everywhere else - but thats another post).
Since we are well on our way into February - I need to talk about W.E.I.G.H.T.
I am the only girl I know that hates being thin. I fluctuate alot, especially when I cant run. I lose *alot* of weight when I stop running even for one week. As we all know, distance runners tend to store alot of water in their bodies along with glycogen. Once activity is reduced - you basically lose alot of this water - which means the scale shows you losing weight alarmingly. When I visited New York not very long ago, I lost 15lbs in 2 weeks simply because my acitivity level was reduced to 4 miles 5 days a week. Therefore, running big miles, the way I do, is a a disastrous recipe for anyone trying to lose weight. This is because its counter-productive for efficient running. For me, I would rather be 10lbs heavier and enjoy my runs than be miserable and thin lacking energy every morning.
Having said all this, I have come up with an arbitrary number that I *think* I need to be to run optimally this May. I have a time goal - I dont want to reveal it incase I dissappoint everyone. In my head, I know I can race faster if I lose 5-10lbs. I also know my addictive tendencies, meaning I might take it too far. I not only look awful, its no fun!!!
As of today I weigh 118 lbs. So we shall see. I am NOT going to give up my weekend all-you-can-eat fests, but I need to curtail the amount of sugar I consume. We will see. Now that I have written it here - I feel accountable.
Anyway, on to my run.
Saturday miles were only 4. I *danced* (if you can call it that) 4 hours friday night. My poor feet!
This morning I ran 13.3 miles. 13 miles were done in 1:35 and the last 0.3 I walked thanks to a stoopid bird who insists on waiting for me every weekend! Grrrrrrrr
